The week of the other F*** word

Feminism is sometimes regarded as a dirty word. The concept is considered to be dated, covered with a thick layer of dust, overtaken by the history of our enlightened western world. The feminists of the past had at least real, tangible goals: voting, the pill, equal pay, the right to their own bank account to open more.

However, there is still much work to be done in the year 2013. Women are the hardest hit by the economic crisis, one in ten women are victims of rape, and the ubiquitous beauty ideal provides an extremely oppressive image of women as mere sexy kittens.

Feminism is, in other words, needed. Moreover, it is not only about what is going wrong or what we want refrom. It's also about how it can be: how we can live in a similar way, with respect for each other and for everyone's individuality.

This society has a need for feminism. Because we all benefit from a society in balance, where everyone gets the respect and opportunities that every human being deserves.

On the occasion of the International Women's Day (8 March 2013) devotes an entire week and therefore special attention to feminism, sexism and gender (in) equality.
